Our Strategic Priorities

To achieve our vision, KAMS is focused on five strategic priority areas:

1. Kimberley Communities

Goal: Excellent health services and outcomes for Kimberley Aboriginal people.

Aboriginal health encompasses spiritual, emotional, and physical wellbeing, as well as community, culture, Country and language. A community-led, holistic model of care is essential for the health of all Kimberley Aboriginal people.

2. Aboriginal Organisations

Goal: A strong, sustainable and unified Aboriginal community-controlled sector.

Community control is key to Aboriginal self-determination. When our organisations are strong and connected, we can better define our priorities and deliver tailored, culturally safe solutions that meet the needs of our people.

3. Regional Workforce

Goal: A skilled, supported and connected Kimberley Aboriginal health and wellbeing workforce

A strong Aboriginal workforce is essential to delivering culturally safe services. Their lived experience, community connections, and cultural knowledge strengthen service delivery and build long-term sector sustainability.

4. Health System

Goal: A collaborative regional, state and national approach to improving Aboriginal health and wellbeing

A culturally responsive health system must be led by Aboriginal organisations, with collaboration across government, education, research and service sectors. Aboriginal leadership is central to building a system that works for our people.

5. Shared Knowledge

Goal: A resourceful health system driven by research and innovation.

Continuous improvement is driven by shared learning. By valuing Aboriginal knowledge, research, data, and technology, we build stronger services and better health outcomes for our communities.

Our Foundation

KAMS is governed and controlled by Kimberley Aboriginal people. We are nationally recognised as a strong advocate for the Kimberley Aboriginal health and wellbeing sector and are committed to delivering culturally safe, community-led primary health care.

Our Definition of Aboriginal Health

“Aboriginal health is not just the physical wellbeing of an individual, but the social, emotional and cultural wellbeing of the whole community in which each individual is able to achieve their full potential, thereby bringing about the total wellbeing of their community. It is a whole-of-life view and includes the cyclical concept of life–death–life.
