Individual Capacity Building (ICB) Program

Kimberley Supports delivers the ICB Program in the remote communities of Bidyadanga, Beagle Bay, Balgo, Billiluna and Mulan.

Program Details

The program is designed to support people with disability, their families, and carers to develop the skills, confidence, and networks they need to achieve their goals and participate fully in community life.

The ICB program is guided by community input and delivered in partnership with local organisations to ensure it respects local knowledge, language, and cultural practices. It plays a vital role in closing the gap in access and inclusion for people with disability.

Delivered through a strengths-based and culturally safe approach, the program focuses on:

  • Promoting self-advocacy and rights awareness
Through group workshops, one-on-one support, and community events, participants build their understanding of their rights and how to speak up for themselves or others.
  • Building social and peer support networks
Peer-led groups and culturally appropriate activities foster connection, reduce isolation, and empower individuals through shared experience and knowledge exchange.
  • Supporting goal setting and community participation
Participants are supported to identify personal goals and take steps toward greater independence, whether through education, volunteering, or access to mainstream services.
  • Engaging with families and communities
The program recognises the important role families and communities play in supporting people with disability and provides tools and opportunities to build capacity within these informal supports.
