The Kimberley Foot Initiative is a project funded by the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) aims to reduce diabetes-related foot complications and amputations among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through health promotion activities and podiatry services.
The KFI project focuses on delivering health promotion and evidence-based education across six Kimberley Locations serviced by KAMS clinics including Broome Renal Health Centre, Bidyadanga, Beagle Bay, Balgo, Billiluna, and Mulan. These activities engage all community members from school children to Elders in promoting foot health.
In May 2024, KAMS welcomed a dedicated podiatrist to the team, establishing an in-house clinical podiatry service to support community members in managing and preventing diabetes-related foot complications
