Tackling Indigenous Smoking Program

The Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) program is a national program that aims to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by reducing the prevalence of tobacco use through population health promotion and educational activities.

Program Details

The program is targeted towards

  • Young people – from primary school aged to 24 years old.
  • Pregnant women and their families.
  • People living in remote areas.

The Kimberley TIS team is made up of four Member Service teams who are given regional support by KAMS. Since 2023 the TIS program introduced Indigenous Regions (IREGs). The three Kimberley TIS IREG’s are currently.

IREG 501 – Broome where BRAMS’s No Joobuk team service the Broome area, Dampier Peninsula and the Bidyadanga area.

IREG 508 – West Kimberley where DAHS’s Quit Today, Live Tomorrow team service the Derby and Fitzroy Crossing area.

IREG 504 – Kununurra where OVAHS and YY’s Strong and Smoke Free team service the East Kimberley area.

The Kimberley TIS teams work with their local communities to provide school education sessions, small group community education, community events and quit support training about the harms of smoking/vaping and the benefits of not taking it up.
