Advocacy

Advocating for Stronger Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Care.

The Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector (ACCHS) delivers culturally safe, community-led health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through national leadership from NACCHO and state-based leadership from AHCWA, the sector advocates for meaningful health system reform, a strong and sustainable workforce, and genuine Aboriginal community control.

As the third largest employer of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people nationally, the ACCHS supports not only primary health care delivery, but also economic participation, workforce development and community leadership. This strong workforce enables holistic, place-based care that reflects the cultural, social and clinical needs of communities.

KAMS works alongside Member Services in alignment with the Priority Reforms of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, including shared decision-making, strengthening the community-controlled sector, transforming government systems and building the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce.

In the Kimberley, this work is strengthened through regional collaboration and Aboriginal-led governance, including the Kimberley Aboriginal Health Planning Forum (KAHPF), the Kimberley Supports Consortium, the RHD Consortium, the Aboriginal Regional Governance Group (ARGG) and the Kimberley Aboriginal Regional Body (KARB).

Together, these partnerships support coordinated, culturally grounded reform that is accountable to community and focused on long-term health and wellbeing outcomes.
