Caring For Our Communities’ Mental Health
KAMS focuses on Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB), a holistic concept for Aboriginal health that connects individuals to land, culture, ancestry, and community, recognising the lasting impacts of past policies.
We provide culturally appropriate SEWB support, training, outreach, and workforce development in the Kimberley region, addressing mental health as part of overall wellbeing, including issues like AOD (Alcohol & Other Drugs).
KAMS delivers services for headspace to support the young people in the Kimberley community, and offer:
- Culturally Situated Support: Brief interventions and group work tailored to community needs.
- SEWB Training: Workshops for community members and SEWB workforce on mental health, substance use, and cultural practices.
- Workforce Development: Training, resources, and support for local SEWB workers.
Our team takes a holistic approach, as we recognise that wellbeing is tied to land, culture, spirituality, family, and connection.
We also collaborate on research to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal people in the Kimberley.
